Warriors Open Season Hosting Ozarks: A Promising Start for a Young Team

As the temperatures drop and leaves fall, it signals the approach of basketball season, and there’s a palpable buzz surrounding Thad McCracken’s Warrior basketball team. With all starters returning from the previous season and most of their bench intact, the only notable departure being locker room leader Jason Gibson, expectations are high.

Coach McCracken shared his excitement, saying, “I am really excited for this season. We are still a pretty young team, but we have a good bit of experience back from last season. The guys all seemed to have put in a lot of effort on their games as well as their bodies over the summer and have really been working hard so far in practice.”

Challenges and Aspirations

When asked about the challenges they expect this season, Coach McCracken responded, “Obviously, staying healthy will be an important key for us, but I like our pieces and I like how they have been coming together. We have a good bit of depth at every position, and our biggest challenge will be with respect to how guys handle and accept their individual roles.”

Returning Stars

The Warriors welcome back three players who earned All-SAA honors last year, with 2nd Team All-SAA Senior Tyler Deithloff leading the charge. Deithloff, who averaged 13 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game, is expected to be a key player this season. The Warriors also bring back big man Colten Berry, who led the team in rebounds with an average of 7 per game and contributed 9.3 points per game. Caleb Squires, who impressed in his freshman campaign, is looking to build on his success from last season, finishing second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.8 points per game, and boasting an impressive 92.2% free-throw shooting record, ranking second in school history.

New Faces

In addition to their returning talents, the Warriors have added five new faces to the team this year, including transfer guard Max Chenault, who previously played at Southeastern Oklahoma State, and promising recruits Addison Shelton, Micah Gibbs, Ali Rasheed, and Zach Nolan. These additions are expected to bring fresh energy and skills to the team.

The Season Opener

The Warriors are gearing up to open their season at Grove Gymnasium, facing the Ozark Eagles. Last season, these two teams split the series, each securing a victory on their home court. In their previous matchup, Daniel Cobb played a pivotal role in the Warriors’ win, scoring 17 points and sealing the victory with a three-pointer. Colten Berry showcased his dominance with a game-high 11 rebounds and three blocks. The game featured nine lead changes and four tied scores, making it an exciting contest for fans.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 8th, at 8:00 PM at Grove Gymnasium as the Warriors take on the Ozark Eagles. Don’t miss the action, and tune in to the Warrior Sports Network for live coverage. It’s the beginning of what promises to be an exhilarating season for the Warriors as they strive for success on the basketball court.
